Changelog
Every release, and what it changed.
Foldy is a one-time purchase — updates are free.
1.2
Current
September 2026
A cosmetic fix to the thing you see before anything else.
- The disk image looks like itself again. 1.1 opened as a bare folder listing rather than the window with Foldy and an arrow pointing at your Applications folder.
1.1
September 2026
Foldy now keeps itself up to date, and says so when something is stopping it.
- Automatic updates. Foldy checks for a new version on launch and once a day after that, and installs it in a click. Every update is signed, so only builds that came from us will install. Check for Updates… sits in the menu if you would rather ask.
- It tells you what is wrong. When Screen Recording is off there is nothing to fold, and Foldy used to sit there quietly doing nothing. Now the menu says so, and clicking takes you to the right Settings pane. Macs without a hinge sensor get told that too, instead of a dash where the angle should be.
- Fixed: Intensity started on Subtle. A fresh install was meant to open on Normal and quietly came up one notch below. If you had already picked an intensity yourself, yours is untouched.
- Runs on macOS 14 Sonoma and later, as promised. The first build quietly asked for a much newer macOS than it needed.

The first release.
- The fold. Your desktop holds its place in the air while the lid tilts away from it, and a sheet of glass thickens over the screen as it closes.
- Read from the hinge. The lid angle comes straight off the sensor Apple already puts behind the hinge, 125 times a second — no polling, no accessibility permissions.
- Seven kinds of glass. Frosted, Textured, Fire, Liquid, Rain, Ice and Smoke, each written on its own rather than one blur behind a different slider.
- Effect strength from 0 to 100%, blending between the picture lying flat on the panel and held rigidly in space.
- Intensity for how thick the glass gets.
- Preview Fold —
⌘Pplays the whole thing with the lid wide open, so you can show it off without closing anything. - A soft click when the lid opens and the desktop clears. Switch it off if you would rather not.
- Lives in the menu bar. Change glass, dial the sliders, or turn it off without leaving the menu.
- Launch at login, off by default.
